Learn To Code, #MDM4U

We’re going to be working with spreadsheets some more this week (and you have an assignment due!), but I also wanted you to take a look at the Hour Of Code/Computer Science Week stuff that’s prevalent on the Interwebs this week.

We’re doing some introductory work with data processing and analysis, but the serious stuff requires serious skills. If you want to be able to analyze complex information, Computer Science is essential.

Let’s get started.

From Brian Aspinall (@mraspinall) we have Learn To Code, a great collection of resources. I’ll recommend snapcoding.com, which works on most devices and is visual. I made this lovely picture, for example:

A friend of mine, Doug Peterson (@dougpete) has also curated a bunch of resources in several places – take a look at his blog post: Hour of Code 2014. He curates all his links using several different services, and it’s worth checking out just to see those tools in action.

Spend some time learning to code a bit this week. It’ll help your brain, I promise.
