MPM2D Similar and Congruent Triangles – 2016-01-12 and 13

Hey everyone,

Sorry I forgot to post yesterday!

On Tuesday we talked about congruent and similar triangles. We noted that

  • in congruent triangles, corresponding angles are equal and corresponding side lengths are equal
  • in similar triangles, corresponding angles are equal and corresponding side lengths are proportional

This means that if two triangles are congruent, they’re also similar (and happen to have the same side lengths).

Another way to think of this is that congruent triangles are the same in both shape and size. Similar triangles only need to have the same shape.

We practised a bunch, then you completed Page 333 #5-8 on Tuesday and now Page 348 #9, 10, 11, 14, and 16 today. That’s your homework if you’re catching up.
